Cebu City is the Queen City of the South. It is where I was born. There are a lot of interesting things you can find on every corner, from native food to cultural events. One day, I traveled around the city to know the different kind of street food that I can find here.
Then, I came to realize that even I am new to these wonderful and interesting delicacies that sprawling around the beautiful and lively city.
Street food everywhere in Cebu
As we went to Colon (the oldest street in Cebu), I became subservient to anything new (well, most of them are new to me) As we walked along the Basilica Minore del Sto. NiƱo, we passed by this group of foreign friends. It motivated me as I can be the catalyst of the vivaciousness our foreign friends can be if I can share these wonderful things to them who sauntered around and continue to bedazzle to our city.

Interesting, delicious and intriguing, there are the different street food that you can find as you go ahead and start nibbling every piece of that your hands can grab, and your mouth can chew.
If you're one for street food then this is a must do while you're in Cebu as we've designed this street food tour to bring you to the best-kept secrets in Cebu. The tour will start in the famous street of Colon for the Punko-punko experience and chicken barbeque, to continue a street which can only be described as a hole in the wall? where you will try siomai, the Filipino-chinese Dumpling. .Inside Pasil, you will also try the famous Tuslob-Buwa : pig's brain with oil and soy sauce cooked in a wok until bubbles (buwa) are formed through boiling, you will then have your Puso (rice cooked inside a weaved palm leaf) dipped (tuslob) inside the wok to scrape the bubbles formed - this is a communal activity and don't be surprised if there are locals around you sharing the same Buwa. Finally, dessert! Here you will be taken to a charming old lady making sticky rice with local chocolate and sometimes with fresh Mango - she has had her sticky rice stall there for so long that almost all the residents of Pasil market have grown up eating her super delicious desserts Have you ever tried intestines? It actually wasn’t bad at all! Crispy on the outside and a little chewy, but it tasted yummy.
If there's anything else that catches your fancy as we walk along the narrow streets then just let us know and we'll be happy to let you sample that as well. They say the only way to truly know a city is through its food. Don’t get me wrong, a fancy restaurant is nice from time to time. But there’s a certain kind of authenticity that you get from the good ol’ street food. And surely, Cebu is definitely a city of gastronomical adventure.
We have the famous Balot (duck embryo) readily available in every corner. But that’s not all the city has to offer. For locals, these picks are almost a staple. For tourists, it’s definitely a must-try.
Here are some of the street foods:
Banana Cue or Pinaypay
Fried banana coated in sugar, served two-ways – caramelized or drizzled. This is a popular afternoon snack for students. Just before the classes end, banana cue vendors set up their carts just along the school’s gates, frying up a hand of bananas in a boiling pot of oil. For only 10 pesos (12 pesos in some areas), the subjectively healthy snack is best consumed hot with a glass of Buko (Coconut) Juice.
Peanuts
Peanuts aren’t really new or exciting to anyone, especially when you can have it at almost any part of the world. However, we, Filipinos, like to serve them in variety – steamed, fried, salted or spiced. You can get a bag for as low as 10 pesos up to 25 pesos, depending on the size. And if you ask nicely, the vendor can give you an extra scoop more. Score!
